Cher's 'Learn and Then' Chaper,
derived from The Analects of Confucius-Xue Er Chapter

Picture

The reason that this site is named "xué ér zhī zhōng wén 學而知中文" is mainly from the sound derivation of ‘Cher Shares Chinese’. 'Shares' is close to the Chinese pronunciation of "學而知 xué ér zhī", while the translation of 'Chinese' is "中文 zhōng wén". Another reason is also inspired by the 'Xue-Er Chapter', from the Analects of our great thinker, Confucius.  "Isn't it a pleasure of learning something and then realize it at the due intervals? Isn't it joyful to have friends visiting from afar? Isn't it a gentleman who never get offended even others fail to appreciate his abilities?'
"After Learning and (then) knowing not enough". By sharing Chinese via the Internet, it has again allowed me to learn more deeply. I believe it also applies to you. As we study more, our thirst for knowledge becomes deeper and we feel our deficiencies even more. The vastness of knowledge is so far-reaching that we fall into the enriched Chinese histories and profound cultures. "Learning and knowing Chinese." Through learning, we understand Chinese, and get to know the beauty of the Chinese characters and cultures. We learn from each other, and strengthen our knowledge after then.
Confucius said:"Without thinking, learning will be confused; without learning, thinking will be dubious." Western philosopher, Kant said : "Perceptual ignorance is blind, intellectual without perceptuality is empty". Learning and thinking go hand-in-hand.
'Cher Shares Chinese' web site, which was built initially for my Chinese teaching, has accumulated my pedagogical approaches and experiences,  and also forces me to get more in-depth exploration of the Chinese knowledges. It is like my 'Learn & Then' chapter (Cher' Xue'r Chapter).  It is indeed joyful that I can share some Chinese knowledges and continue to ponder my thoughts through the Clouds!
